FAQs

Regardless of what you're buying, shopping online with the Acolyte Book Store should be a simple and stress-free experience.

We've put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions, to help you understand how our online shop works and hopefully make your visit with us a satisfying one. We'll update this list occasionally to reflect the feedback of our customers.

Q: Why do I have to "create an account"?

A: If all you want to do is browse the catalogue, then you don't have to, but if you decide to buy a book then at the "checkout" stage we'll need to know your billing address and delivery address (which might be the same): creating an account means that you only have to type this information once. Thereafter it's stored and is recalled every time you use your username and password to login and the checkout fills in the appropriate form field automatically. An account can also be associated with a number of delivery addresses, one for home, one for work, and so on. The information we hold, which is strictly private - see our privacy policy - is also there in case we should ever need to contact you about an order or delivery. The minimum we need (in addition to a name) is a billing/delivery address, a telephone number and an email address. We do not advertise from the site using this information, except for a single email notification if you have requested this for an "out of stock" product. You can always check - and revise - your details using the "My Account" maintenance link (below the "product Search" box).

Q: What types of payment do you accept?

A: We accept most credit and debit cards including Access, Eurocard, Mastercard, VISA, Switch/Maestro and Connect Card. We regret we do not accept Diners Club or American Express.

Q: Can I pay in my own currency?

A: We accept payment on line in Euros, US dollars, and British pounds. Shopping cart totals are calculated in the selected currency (the pound is the "base" currency and exchange rates are adjusted accordingly) and WorldPay will bill your card in the selected currency. We regret we do not accept other currencies. Arrangements for off line payment are always made in British pounds.

Q: How is the currency exchange rate calculated?

A: The shopping cart module obtains "today's rate" direct from the European Central Bank's (ECB) standardised exchange rate data stream. This is usually updated at 15:00h CET daily: prices are recalculated using the current rate during the checkout. You can find out more about the ECB from their web site.

Q: How is my postage calculated?

A: There is a minimum postage and handling charge of £2.50 per item ordered in the UK. Shipping on all orders is calculated on package weight using the Royal mail First Class rates for dispatch throughout the world.

Q: How do I return something?

A: If for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, please contact Acolyte by email to obtain authorisation for return, at which time full instructions for returns will be issued. Please see the returns policy for more detail.

Q: Once I have added an item to my basket, how do I continue shopping?

A: Use the back browser button to return to shop and continue shopping. Our system will remember the items you have added to your basket (even after you logout) until you either clear the contents or make a purchase - but remember that prices (and stock) are re-calculated at the time when you make your purchase, not at the time you added an item to your cart.

Q: Do you provide electronic versions of your books or other publications?

A: Currently we do not provide any of our publications in electronic form, but it is possible that we may do this in future. We are currently investigating things like appropriate formats and download mechanisms, but in the meantime please be patient.

Q: What if I prefer to order via conventional methods?

A: The Acolyte Book Store is set up to provide quick and easy service to individuals wishing to purchase one or two books using their credit card or similar means. If you would prefer to purchase our print products via traditional methods (bank transfer or cheque, following an official order from an institute or company), mechanisms can be set up for this, but they are usually limited to "bulk" orders. Please contact us to make arrangements (subject to approval).
